Human Bridge

Human Bridge is an aid organization that carries out material-related projects. In collaboration with Human Bridge, Gekås started Textilreturen in 2012, a recycling station where used textiles become aid in the form of hospital equipment and disability aids.

Collection

There are Human Bridge collection boxes around Ullared, where you can leave clothes and other textiles. Textiles and clothes that are left are taken care of by Human Bridge staff. What is accepted is both whole and broken used clothes, garments, underwear, bedding, towels and household textiles. Whole shoes, handbags, blankets, belts, hats and accessories are also accepted. To be used, the textiles must be kept dry. All materials are sorted, primarily to reuse the used textiles again. This is the best thing for the environment and fills a great need for many people.

What happens to collected textiles, shoes and toys?

All textiles and clothing that are left are sorted by Human Bridge staff. What is no longer suitable for further use is sorted into several different categories for recycling. A small but important part is to recover fiber for new production of fabric. Some parts of the fibers can become raw material for other things such as blankets, insulation and more. The staff from Human Bridge choose which clothes go to direct relief efforts and what to sell in their second-hand shop. All the money generated goes towards collecting, repairing and sending medical supplies and disability equipment to the places in the world that need it most.

Help is on the way

When you donate clothes to Human Bridge, you can rest assured that your textiles are being taken care of in a serious way and that your efforts are really making a difference. You are also helping to reduce the mountain of waste, which is largely made up of discarded textiles. Read more about Human Bridge.
